What are the promotional products? Any item or product that you give to promote your business is a promotional product. Promotional items are products branded with a logo or slogan and distributed at little or no cost to promote a brand or event. Although they are everywhere, we actually still have some misconceptions about them.

#1. Purchase cheap promotional items for saving cost

First of all, it should be clear that there are many cheap promotional products available, and there are many customers who can only purchase low-priced promotional items due to budget constraints. But we can’t focus too much on the “cheap” as the promotional products are given away for free. How do you choose to purchase promotional items at the right price point? I think the most important thing depends on the following 2 points.

1-1. Know the age class of the audience group

It is crucial that the audience of different age groups will determine what type of promotional items they prefer? For example, young people will prefer consumer electronics items. Those over 40 years old, especially those who have already started a family, will prefer practical household products. This difference in product preference will directly determine the purchase cost of promotional items.

1-2. Must choose promotional products with relevance

This means that the promotional item must be relevant or complementary to the product or service you are selling and reflect the value of your product or service. As a simple example, let’s say a car sales company wants to hold a promotional event for a new car. A bath towel worth several dollars or a set of auto repair tools worth tens of dollars, which is more valuable to this company’s product and services.

To sum up, we should get rid of the inherent stereotype that I should try to purchase cheap promotional items in order to save costs. Instead, we should consider at a deeper level, what is the market positioning of our company? What types of promotional products do our consumers like?

#2. Promotional items will eventually be thrown away

Of course, this is indeed a fact. But the first thing we have to consider is how long before this promotional product is thrown away by the customer? A week? A month? Or a year? According to statistics, more than 70% of promotional items are used continuously or kept for more than 6 months, and 27% are even kept for more than 18 months continuously. These promotional items are mainly concentrated in the categories of office stationery, kitchen supplies, fitness equipment, and travel supplies. These figures show that not all promotional items are thrown in the trash shortly after they are received. On the contrary, those promotional products that are closely related to our lives and have strong practicality are still used for a long time.

As we all know, the longer a promotional item is retained, the more deeply your brand image will be engraved in the minds of consumers. Therefore, when we purchase promotional products, we should try to choose those promotional products with a high degree of relevance to our lives, only then will your logo or slogan keep appearing in the eyes of consumers!

#3. Order fewer than I really need

Never underestimate the power of freebies. Almost everyone can’t resist free promo items, it’s human nature! Let me tell you from nearly 17 years of experience in this industry—the products will go more quickly than you imagine! You may lose some to employees, or to people taking more than their allotted amount. You may give the items away at a higher rate than you anticipated, especially if they’re good items. So, I think you should not only not order less, but on the contrary, if with an adequate budget, you should order about 5% more as a buffer.
